Well, this is the final lesson in the Copywriting Guilty Secrets series and I want to share with you my most valuable tip when it comes to writing your copy:
It’s okay not to be perfect
In fact, I suggest you throw the idea of perfection out of the window, and just think about getting it done and getting it out there so you can start making sales for your business.
Now, I’m not advocating you rush or make a sloppy job, but I know a lot of business owners who get stuck too easily trying to craft the perfect copy.
Copywriting can be hard to get going, you’re trying to keep in your mind all the different techniques and tips and hints that make the perfect sales letter or web copy.The thing is, you can always make changes, you can tweak and improve as you go along.
So, if you want to get your sales letter done and published so you can start making sales, here are the most important things you want to spend your time on:
The headline
This doesn’t mean you have to craft a super clever headline, it can be very direct, but you want to make sure it tells your audience (at the very least):
What it is that you are offering and why it is great
E.g. “Figure out the secrets of copywriting in just 60 minutes”
“Relax and de-stress with a spa at home”
Then, you want to make sure you cover:
What it is you have
Specifically:
* What the offer is
* What it includes
* What they will receive
* Why they want it
Really get to know what you’re offering and try to be as specific as possible as to what your customer will receive, and what they will enjoy about it.
Why you can be trusted
Whether you show your qualifications, write about your own personal experience or use testimonials, trust is a big issue when people are buying things so make sure they have every reason to trust you. Also make sure you have your guarantee terms listed clearly so people know exactly what they can expect in case your product or service doesn’t quite suit them.
What they have to do to get it
Yep, that old call to action is definitely important. Tell them what they need to do, how they can apply or sign up and when they need to do this by if it’s a time sensitive offer.
Now I love the psychological techniques and persuasion devices you can use and they are important, and they do have an impact. But if not worrying about those makes the difference between you sitting on a sales letter for weeks or getting it done, out the door and making sales, then just focus on these key aspect and get some great momentum going!
I really love having you in my newsletter group and I hope you’ll stick around. I’ll still be sharing content with you that doesn’t get featured on the blog, and you’ll get to find out about offers and be entitled to discounts before anyone else as a thank-you for hanging out here with me.
Good luck, get writing, and I’ll be seeing you soon!
Amy.
